Let Your Syllabus Work for You
Research shows the cost of course materials has a negative impact on student outcomes, particularly for non-traditional students. It needs to be easier for faculty to adopt affordable and inclusive material. By integrating open educational resources (OERs) and library materials into course design, the Syllabus Matcher helps:
-
every student have high-quality, affordable learning materials tailored to their curriculum.
-
faculty to create dynamic courses without the limitations of textbooks.
-
rich content developed by scholars, nonprofits, and foundations make a broader impact.
How It Works
Step 1: Upload a syllabus. Our tool extracts key themes and filters out irrelevant content like assignment due dates and attendance policies.
Step 2: Review the term list and compare it to your syllabus side-by-side. Edit or add terms, ensuring you are guiding the process.
Step 3: The tool curates relevant learning materials freely available for students from OER and other academically vetted repositories. Review selected items and export choices to a syllabus or LMS/VLE.

The Syllabus Matcher is in use today with college faculty teaching entrepreneurship. It will expand to multiple disciplines soon.
